You May Be Able to Help!

Afghans -  we can not use any that are not at least 24 X 24 inches and larger. May be knit or crochet - no wool yarn ever - thanks

Bibs - yes - we will use these any size, no yarn

Blankets:

Regular -      By "regular" blankets we mean anything that is NOT knitted or crocheted by hand. Please have them crib sized- blankets can be folded in half

                                          for the smaller babies.

Polar -          These are very well received as they are light weight but warm. Please - cut them 36 X 36 or larger as the fabric allows. We can give bigger

ones to the orphanage and other needy children ages 0 - 5 years.

Receiving-    Flannel fabrics - [or brushed nylon DOUBLED, soft side out].

36 X 36 please- cutting the smaller ones is not the best use of the fabrics - we can use the trimmings for quilt squares!!!

Boots - Foot covers

Booties- we still need them and want them but interestingly enough we will not need as many. Advances in keeping babies warm improve and the bootie is

not as requested as it once was. Please make some now and then if you like - I like them for larger newborns and we will still pack them into burial

layettes - all sizes. [These may be kept by families as keepsakes. Make them all white for that.] Any color and kind - but nothing tiny - I will test

them by putting two of my fingers into the top and turning the corner - too tight - I can't use them and I will tell you!

Buntings - I love our buntings and we have two favorites - our  "Star" bunting is the commercial pattern - ask for the copy to trace.

Our other pattern is the bunting wrap - pattern is here also - this is literally two pieces of soft light weight flannel or other - with casings for ribbon ties around the head to tie under the chin - and the rest of the "square” with rounded corners becomes the wrap. Very easy and this is for the small ones - one size fits all the little preemies!

Additionally there are crocheted buntings being made - this is from a pattern left to us by Marilyn G.  Ask me for it.

Burials - Maybe two dozen per month - all sizes but talk to me first please. These are always all white only please - with embellishment in light pastels if you add little roses or bows and such. Just remember all white makes it easier for the family when the loss is a tiny one- and the sex is not always known.

Miscarriage wrappers are still needed - not many per month so let me know about this too - I'm going to get real picky about these. Nothing smaller then 11 X 11 inches for the "pouch" part - then embellish. No smaller! White only on these always. Sometimes we have called these fetal demise pouches - whichever term is used - we will only need a few per month total

Dresses - We have only one or two ladies that make these. We love them and welcome larger ones anytime for bigger “little” girls. Any pattern for a little dress will work. We have several facilities that would like larger then new born. A few a month would be great.

Gowns - we will need NEWBORN sizes - up to 3 month - or bigger sizes. We will still use the smaller front over lap gown designed by Bobbie Hawkins - if you have that pattern - keep it. The NB and smaller size of that pattern is available to trace here at my home - or I will send out copies by email. You will need to print and take it to a printer for enlarging to make the grid 1.25 inches or LARGER. Commercial patterns - let me know what ones you have and we'll measure. We will be needing MORE gowns over all - but in larger sizes.

Hats - we will not ask for any more preemie hats, understand that this means - those few of you that have already been sending very stretchy knitted hats may please continue - but our crocheted hats - no small ones please. The need is covered with fine yarn knitted ones the most effectively. Sewn hats are wonderful - we will continue with those - but nothing smaller than one to fit a 5- 6 pound newborn. Take that "orange" example I gave you all and toss it - use the BIGGEST grapefruit you can and then go larger for sizes.

Hygiene items diapers - any size, baby wash, shampoo, lotion, wipes. Pacifiers, bottles included here too! I will not even attempt to set a limit here - we could give away 100 bottles of shampoo a month - just let them roll in if you feel like shopping. We serve a children’s home, and other places that will take all Hygiene we can send them.

Jackets – Ruth’s Baby Jacket is adorable and fits average newborn – pattern here

Jogging Suits – Preemie pattern and up available here /more Newborn sized and larger needed.

Mittens - These are going to be seasonally needed. Make them with polar fleece? - great! - knitted is wonderful - gloves for older children are needed.

Mitts - mitts are needed around the calendar - they must pass my two finger test as the booties - see above. Some hospitals are asking for these instead of booties - little hands scratch - be careful not to stretch ribbing too tightly or I can't send them out.

Onesies - we'll continue making these - all sizes - you may have a commercial pattern - just go ahead and make them up!

Pants We have an adorable NB pair that go well with "Ruth's NB Jacket" - we are free to make larger ones - to fit good sized boys up to age five - so I think size 6 is going to be our top mark. These are also nice when purchased.

Quilts We will never have enough - but 135 - 145 per month would do very nicely thank you very much! All quilts must be big enough to cover over an isolette - larger then crib sized? - let's call that 36 X 45 at least! or BIGGER!

Shirts - We have a pattern for little shirts - boys/girls - to go with little pants, and we would like to see some larger than this newborn size too.

Sleepers - to fit a 3 pound baby - and UP. We've been asked for MORE sleepers in the 0- 6 month range which is 6 - 13 or larger pound wise. Patterns are here or commercial ones work

Snakes -We have discontinued making these until we get a special request

Swaddle these are new in 2008. Made from two oval pieces of flannel with a large pocket in the center for baby. Sides are then folded in toward center and fastened with Velcro. Pattern available, email Karen

Sweaters- New born and on up - any pattern you like
